lay person one for $300.00
this one is quite good, free online storage for the last 12 hours or ten bucks for a week. it looks like a tablet so you can place it on any surface tiled up with its rest or on a wall. It is $300.00 and well worth what it can do for this price...
when anyone enters the location it can be set/programmed to send a notification to you or set it if unplugged it sends a message to you and so on, again the past hours or days pictures were recorded.

Home security cameras can provide a sense of, well, security, but there's something Orwellian about having a lens staring at you like a prop out of an episode of The Prisoner. A more discreet solution is something that doesn't look like a camera and, better yet, combines some other functions to make it more welcome. One example is the Sentri home monitoring system that combines a motion-activated camera with the looks of a digital information center. We powered one up to see what it could do.

A single Canary brings smart security to your home
http://www.cnet.com/products/canary-smart-home-security-device/
If there's any doubt as to whether people are eager for new home security alternatives, just take a look at Canary, a $199 smart home security device that blew up on Indiegogo this summer, crowdfunding its way to almost $2 million worth of contributions and preorders in a little over a month (its initial goal was $100,000).
Unlike other DIY security systems that we've seen, like the iSmartAlarm and its variety of external sensors, the Canary is a singular, all-in-one device. Housed within the curved, sleek-looking body (available in white, silver, or matte black -- but oddly enough, not yellow) you'll find a 720p HD camera with a wide-angle lens and night-vision capability that you can monitor remotely at any time, along with built-in sensors capable of detecting changes in motion, temperature, humidity, and air quality. That's a lot of tech for a device that's smaller than a bottle of Gatorade.

Blacksumac, a developer of remote presence-based smart technology, has announced the US and Canada launch of Piper, a home security and automation device. It allows users to monitor and interact with their home via a smartphone or tablet.

Last year Piper raised over three times its targeted amount via an Indiegogo campaign. The device incorporates a wide-angle camera, motion detector, speaker, microphone, siren, Wi-Fi, Z-Wave controller and sensors for humidity, temperature, sound and ambient light. It can be mounted on a wall or simply placed on flat surface, and an accompanying app allows users to interact with, and control, it. Up to five Pipers can be managed with the app.
First and foremost, Piper provides a video feed that users can remote monitor the home via the app. A 180° fish-eye lens aims to provide a full-view of a room in one shot, and users can also pan and zoom as required. Live video can be accessed using the app, and videos of triggered recordings are saved to Piper's servers in the cloud. The device also monitors temperature, humidity, ambient light and sound levels, as well as providing two-way audio.
