for those who are not aware, the classic is starting up at Las Cruses This is a remote hideaway that the 50s genre actors and ultra rich built their winter hide away. Owners were Dezi, Lucy, Frank, Bing, from what I was told about 100 hollywood families. Volunteer and be a driver to drop people off if you are not going to be a racer.

Happy New Year and get ready for fun at the 2016 La Ventana Classic!
Only 2 more days to Register for the Event and Clinics. Sign up before January 2, 2016, by 11:30 pm. The website goes dark at midnight Saturday. That means the only other time to register is Tuesday, January 5, between 11:00 am - 7:00 pm at Palapas Ventana Restaurant.
Racing in the La Ventana Classic? Do you have a favorite number? Come to Palapas Ventana Restaurant and select that jersey number at 11am on Tuesday, January 5, to register and pick it up. Then return for the Skippers meeting that night at 6:30 pm.
Every contestant with the La Ventana Classic must come to Palapas Ventana Restaurant on Tuesday to pick up your jersey AND attend the skippers meeting at 6:30 pm. Every Racer must attend this meeting! Stay for the welcome party afterward.

Come demo the latest 2016 gear starting Wednesday, January 6 through Sunday, January 10, from 11a-4p daily. Registration hours are 10a to 3p daily. Please note that Sunday is an optional day for vendors to demo.
Participating brands include Airush, Best, Cabrinha, F-One, Naish, Ozone, Slingshot, and Star Kites. Participants must be intermediate or better level kiters, able to go upwind or better consistently, know right of way rules and practice them, be able to readily relaunch their kites, can perform at a minimum a basic jump, and be comfortable kiting in traffic.
All demo participants must sign a waiver AND PROVIDE CREDIT CARD INFO for lost or damaged equipment. Please note in 10 years of Tkb Kitexpo demos, we have only had to charge one person and all info is destroyed immediately after the event.
New for 2016, the first 100 Kitexpo participants will get a plastic card with participating vendor logos on it. This card will be attached to a string that you can loop around your harness or wetsuit zipper. Request a sticker from each vendor you demo. Participants that demo all brands need to submit their card to registration with their name written on the back by noon on Sunday to be eligible for a special raffle drawing on Sunday, time TBD.

Every dollar helps by supporting the Amigos de Alumnos Scholarship program to send our own local kids to High School. Only $300 will send one child one year.

Day 2 of Competition and Fundraising
Day two of the La Ventana Classic kicked off with an early standup paddling skipper’s meeting under the Baja sunrise. SUP competitors completed laps around a triangle shaped course to complete the SUP course racing division of the classic.
The Kitexpo continued today with lighter winds in the morning, perfect for demoing and testing out the latest foil kites and boards. The morning’s light winds were ideal for foil course racing, with bigger kites almost doubling the wind speed with their velocity made good. The first start was chaotic with stragglers starting almost thirty seconds behind, but by the second race the fleet of 11 racers was tightly grouped when the starting gun fired. Nico Landauer led the pack with Adam Withington following close behind for the majority of the races. Nico took the day’s win followed by Adam and Ejder Ginyol. Foil course races will be held everyday for the rest of the event as foilers battle it out for the overall win.
The sky was lit up with skydivers buzzing the LVC event site as MC Neil, Baja Joe and friends Monty and Billy aimed for a target hula-hoop just south of the event site. Earlier in the week, spectators placed bets to see who would land the closest to the hoop. Neil won out, landing less that 21ft from the hoop. After landing Neil exclaimed, “I’ve skydived all over the world but in La Ventana, there’s nothing like it! If you’ve ever thought about skydiving, you have to do it here!” Signups for tandem skydives continued throughout the day with proceeds benefiting the kids of La Ventana.
The SUP mini downwinder kicked off at 1:30 with a 4 mile course race from the Hot Springs Beach to Palapas Ventana. World class paddlers Anthony Vela and Jeremy Vaine of San Clemente took first and second respectively with Los Barrilles native Macrae Wyle coming in first. The standout paddler of the day was La Ventana local, Julio Ceasar Lucero, who paddled himself to the event site from town with a soft top and rope leash, but event organizers arranged for Julio to use an F-One demo board to compete in the downwinder. Updates And Events
SUP racers will take boats to Cerralvo Island for the SUP crossing to the Hot Springs. Arrive at the Hot Springs about 10:30 am to support your favorite contestant and cheer them on at the Finish Line!
1:00 pm Skippers meeting for afternoon Windsurf and Kite racing and Freestyle competition. The contestants are giving all they have to win races and boost tricks at the Hot Springs. The crowds are going wild!!
Raffle Winners - the grand prize on Thursday was a Neil Pryde New Pivot Harness, value over 300 US goes to Linda Walsh. Congratulations!! Daily Wrap Up Summary - Wednesday, January 6
The first day of the 2016 La Ventana Classic kicked off under blue skies and 20 knot winds with the Kitexpo/Gear demo. Featuring the latest 2016 gear from Best, Airush, Slingshot/Ride Engine, Naish, F-One/Manera, Ozone and Cabrinha, participants were able to test out the latest and greatest in kite and board technology.
Halfway through the afternoon the official La Ventana Classic party bus rolled up with a full load of rowdy kiters ready to duke it out on the Party Island Downwinder Poker Run. The teams were dressed to the nines in flamboyant costumes and were chomping at the bit to drink, float and be merry. Teams of 5-8 friends lined up and chugged their beers simultaneously before each team blew up and rigged a single kite to pull their Liquid Force branded party island six miles downwind to Baja Joe’s. On their downwind adventure, the teams had to stop at each of the five pre-set buoys and cut a floating bottle that contained a single playing card. At the end of the day, sun and wind weathered participants stumbled off off their party islands with card filled bottles in hand, awaiting the night’s award ceremony and party at Baja Joe’s where their poker hands would be revealed to see who had the best poker hand. A special award was created for the most interesting story of the day, and was aptly named The Road Runner Especial Award. This award went to Adam Withington, who saved the day for his team. Upon running out of margaritas, Adam hopped off his team’s raft, ran to the closest gas station to purchase a bottle of tequila and sprinted back to his team’s island to make drinks for the crew as they floated offshore on their way to the finish line. SUP racers will take boats to Cerralvo Island for the SUP crossing to the Hot Springs. Arrive at the Hot Springs about 10:30 am to support your favorite contestant and cheer them on at the Finish Line!
1:00 pm Skippers meeting for afternoon Windsurf and Kite racing and Freestyle competition. The contestants are giving all they have to win races and boost tricks at the Hot Springs. The crowds are going wild!!
Raffle Winners - the grand prize on Thursday was a Neil Pryde New Pivot Harness, value over 300 US goes to Linda Walsh. Congratulations!! Mike at Yo Yo's, Bella, Sue B, Warren B collect your winning raffle item at the Hot Springs under the tent. Thank you EVERYONE for buying raffle tickets, T-Shirts, Beer & Water! Athletes should arrive with jerseys on and can bring no more than 2 kites and 1 board. Qualifying jersey numbers: 44, 51, 138 148, 134, 139, 9, 135, 165, 169, 45, 144, 8, 66, 59, 176, 174, 69, 177, 178, 57, 28, 99.
• 10:30 am - SKIPPER'S MEETING FOR THE CRISS CROSS - All foil and windsurf racers qualified.
• 11:00 am - EXPO open all day. Event finals! The Crossing, Criss Cross and Mucha Lucha Downwinder, followed by more FREESTYLE!
