Late November 2011 offered mostly cloud-free skies and a compelling view of the entire length of Baja California and the Pacific coast of Mexico. In the midst of the clarity, strong northeasterly winds stirred up dust storms on the mainland and the peninsula.
The natural-color images required to make this oblique view were acquired on November 27, 2011, by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite. The Ocean Color Team at NASA Goddard processes images like this to help assess the presence of sediment and plankton in the sea. Dust storms interfere with that processing, as the sandy aerosols block much of the incoming sunlight and the outgoing, reflected light.

This is a photo of the ribbon cutting ceremony I took at the “old” Pemex station in town, circa 1969. Ralph Weaver & Tico Gonzales (Cha Cha’s brother) partnered up to give the East Cape it’s first local source of gas. It was quite a big deal at the time as the Governor, all the local mayors and top Pemex representatives showed up to give lengthy speeches on a very hot day. Earl Weaver

Here is a picture of Cabo when the only hotel on the beach was the Hacienda Hotel, gone now. You can see that the Marina was not yet dug. The picture was among my parents effects and is dated on the back "1966". The large sailing vessel in the harbor is the "Goodwill", wrecked years later on the rocks near Ensenada with the loss of all hands on board, while returning to Newport Beach, CA.some local pictures old and new - Page 2 CaboDateUnknownOld
