Exemptions from the payment
Under certain circumstances, you won’t have to make the individual responsibility payment. This is called an “exemption.”
You may qualify for an exemption if:

  • You’re uninsured for less than 3 months of the year

CURP, insurance plans Empty lpg home insurance

Post by dean Mon Sep 23, 2013 9:41 pm

I find out this morning from my caretaker that my home in La Ventana was broken into.  I call Mr. Garcia on a Sunday morning, explain that I am 4000 miles away and he sets up a meeting with the insurance adjuster and my caretaker for Monday morning at 10!

Any of you tried to file a claim in the USA on any day of the week, let alone Sunday, and had an adjuster come out the next morning?
I am sure there are many good insurance agents in La Paz.  I feel very fortunate to have found one of them.

CURP, insurance plans Empty Re: CURP, insurance plans

LPG

Good morning...
Do you know the mexican saying... Lo barato sale caro?
Well, seguro popular is inexpensive but not very fast, as you say lots of waiting periods...
I sell International Health Insurance, the company is BEST DOCTORS: I can insure you up to 74 years for the first time and be reinsured per lifetime. Yes, it is more expensive, but you are covered worldwide for any sickness.
After 64 years I need a general check up by the doctor, before that you need to fill out a questionaire.
Check their site... www.bestdoctors.com and if I can be of help, it would be my pleasure.
Saludos,

Katya Berci

CURP, insurance plans Empty Re: CURP, insurance plans

Like many of you, I was interested in the recent discussion of the Seguro Popular and IMSS insurance plans, and regretted having to end the discussion because one of our members chose to interject an irrelevant and contentious commentary about the US/Mexican immigration situation.

One of the other posts on Seguro Popular suggested that foreigners were somehow taking resources away from the poor by enrolling in the program. Through subsequent research, I've learned that this is not the case, so I wanted to set the record straight:

Seguro Popular was created primarily to make sure that the uninsured 50% of the population are not forced into poverty when they get sick. This would, of course, require people to get used to the idea of pre-paying for services, in this case, medical "protection" -- but so far, that part of the plan hasn't worked out too well.

Other articles and the SP website indicate that the Plan is available to any legal resident of Mexico, and that fees are based on a sliding scale according to income. For most poor people, the coverage is free, but that doesn't mean the plan is only for poor people; in fact, the opposite is true because the paying customers help subsidize those who pay nothing.

It also appears that Seguro Popular is a work in progess ... that services, drugs etc will continue to be added and expanded as money becomes available and the rosters grow. The government hopes to have 50% of the population covered by Seguro Popular in the next few years, and groups like the The World Health Organization and the UN have been very supportive of the plan.

SP Website (English): http://www.seguro-popular.gob.mx/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=100&Itemid=137

A very long and dry article on how SP has evolved: http://www.internationalbudget.org/pdf/JHPPL2010.pdf

IMSS, on the other hand, is a somewhat more extensive and expensive plan available to anyone under the age of 65 who does not have a pre-existing condition (even high blood pressure).

Here's an excerpt from an article by Rick Lewis of MazInfo (link to complete article below):

IMSS stands for Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social. It’s about as close to socialized medical coverage as you can get. Many working people qualify for IMSS and many employers make a contribution toward the IMSS coverage. Mexico has allowed retirees and other visiting residents to buy the IMSS coverage. They base the cost on what the payment would be if you were working full time at minimum wages.

I hope this clarifies any misconceptions about the Seguro Popular plan. Other previous posts have provided a wealth of information about costs, how and where to apply, etc. so please check the LPG archives if you require more information.

CURP, insurance plans Empty Imbursa insurance vs Seguro Popular

Post by dean Sat Jul 09, 2011 6:04 am

Veritas de La Paz
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/veritasdelapaz/message/92
My premium last year for Inbursa was 13,000 pesos plus a bit of change. It
covered me for hospitalization and accidents, nothing more. I uses the FidePaz
hospital, which has tvs and private bathrooms in the rooms.

My premium for seguro popular was 1400 pesos plus a bit of change. It will
cover me for just about everything. The hospital I would use is the new
Salvatierra. I don't expect any luxuries there.

My plan is to use my new insurance for first aid type emergencies and hospital
stays. I prefer to pay for anything in the middle myself.

The lady who has been my Inbursa agent for many years now is lovely and comes to
my house each year to collect. Signing up for Seguro Popular involved 3 visits
to the office and waiting in line.

I hope this helps,

Elaine

Hi Monica;

We got ours on the west side of town and you can drive right up to the door.
I hope this map link works.

When you get just inside the door on the first floor there is a sign above
one of the windows that says CURP.

Yes, you can definitely do this task by yourself. Take your passport and
your FM2/3. Go upstairs to the Civil Registry office on Allende (across
from the uniform store maybe 3 blocks up from he malecon...there's a pay
parking lot right across the street) and ask for a 'numero de curp'. You'll
have it within minutes.

One needs a curp number to apply for IMSS so I would assume it's the same
for Seguro Popular.

Dear All,

I have searched for CURP instructions on la paz gringos and cannot find
them.

1. How do you get a CURP?

2. Do you need a CURP if you have an RFC to obtain Seguro Popular?

3. I have read that Seguro Popular is located across from Office Depot, but
see only the hospital. Is the office to apply in the hospital?

I want to do this task myself.

Thanks very much,

Monika
